Henry I, 1100-1135
- good ruler, on taking throne,
promised to return to the “good old ways” of William the Conqueror - married an Anglo-Saxon
princess and tried to bring the two nationalities together
- during his reign the royal courts
and administration were strengthened - the land prospered under his rule - in 1106, he took
Normandy from his brother Robert - this eventually led to a long struggle with the French king
over the control of Normandy
